Electrodiagnostic profile of conduction slowing in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

چکیده
ObjectiveSince motor nerve conduction slowing can occur due to loss of large axons, we investigate the profile in ALS and identify limits beyond which diagnosis exclusive axonal is unlikely.MethodsFirst, using linear regression analysis, established range 76 CIDP patients. Demyelinating confidence intervals were defined by assessing velocity (CV), distal latency (DML), F-wave (F) relation compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitude median, ulnar, fibular, tibial nerves. Results subsequently validated 38 additional Then, newly demyelination used 95 patients.ResultsCV slowing, prolonged DML, abnormal F observed 22.2%, 19.6%, 47.1% studied nerves respectively When occurred, it affected more than one segment nerve, suggesting that CMAP dependent caused an axons main mechanism slowing. No patient had 2 with CV interval equations or American Academy Neurology (AAN) research criteria for diagnosis.ConclusionsThe presence two demyelinating analysis AAN patients suggests contribution acquired other mechanisms exist electrodiagnostic ALS.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in a Patient with Behçet’s Disease
Behçet’s disease is a multisystem vasculitis. Its neurological involvement mostly includes parenchymal and non-parenchymal central nervous system manifestations. Peripheral nervous system presentations are rare. A 32-yr-old male patient who fulfilled the international study group criteria for Behçet’s disease, referred to our center with walking difficulty and repeated falling downs. Neurologi...
متن کاملThe corticospinal tract profile in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
This work evaluates the potential in diagnostic application of a new advanced neuroimaging method, which delineates the profile of tissue properties along the corticospinal tract (CST) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), by means of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Twenty-four ALS patients and twenty-four demographically matched healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. The Automated Fib...

Abstract Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurological disorder with high mortality and morbidity. Some risk factors have been implicated for ALS such as exposure to high magnetic fields, and trace elements like selenium, cadmium and lead. Afew studies have been carried out throughout the world to evaluate the prevalence of ALS among veterans. This stud...
متن کاملThe longitudinal cerebrospinal fluid metabolomic profile of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Neurochemical biomarkers are urgently sought in ALS. Metabolomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) using proton nuclear magnetic resonance ((1)H-NMR) spectroscopy is a highly sensitive method capable of revealing nervous system cellular pathology. The (1)H-NMR CSF metabolomic signature of ALS was sought in a longitudinal cohort. Six-monthly serial collection was performed in ALS patients ac...

Touch MEdical MEdia 53 Fasciculation, which is observed in various peripheral motor neuron disorders, is most frequently found in nonprogressive benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS). Patients with BFS never exhibit muscle atrophy or pathologic weakness and not all such patients visit hospitals; therefore, the prevalence and characteristics of BFS still need to be established. However, among the ...
